Puppy + Pregnancy = No Bueno

So I think every woman has a story they can tell about their pregnancy that is both awful and hilarious. Although this happened months ago, I just HAD to share mine... Warning-- it's a gross one!

So it was near the beginning of May when my morning (all-day) sickness was in full force. I hadn't really thrown up at that point, just felt like it...a lot. I was laying down on the couch, taking it easy when Mike took the puppy out to go potty. It was late at night and dark, and the back light takes a while to get bright so you can really see outside. I could hear him getting angry at Maya and then carried her in frustrated. I stood up to see what was wrong when he said that the neighbor's dog (a large yellow lab) had pooped in our back yard and Maya had gotten into it. Before he had even finished his sentence, I saw her face covered in it and caught a big whiff of it. I immediately started heaving. No fun. I ran upstairs to the bathroom and yelled for Mike to clean her up the best he could with the disinfecting wipes. At that point, he hadn't given Maya a bath on his own yet, and I knew I would need to help out. I got some fresh air, drank some water and calmed down. I came back down stairs and told Mike to take everything out of Maya's kennel and just set her in there for a moment while I lay down, and then I would bathe her. As I was laying down, suddenly I caught another strong whiff of poo and turn to Maya. What do puppies do after they eat a mouthful of poop?? Throw it up! Bad news!!! But as I saw her sick and covered in it, the mothering instinct set in and I totally forgot I wouldn't be able to handle it. I just grabbed her and started running up the stairs to the bathroom to get her in the bathtub and help her feel better. Of course I begin heaving and throwing up all the way up the stairs!!! I throw Maya in the tub, and turn to the toilet. As I was running and throwing up the stairs, my little sis walks in the front door, totally confused at why it stinks so bad and why I'm puking up the stairs. Thank goodness for an awesome sister and hubby!!! While I spent the next ten minutes over the toilet, they bathed Maya and cleaned up the mess Maya and I had caused.

It's situations like this that you typically find NOT FUNNY until much, much later. But honestly, I was laughing about it the whole time. It seriously sucked. I have never been that sick before. But the situation made everything so, so funny! It was that day when I decided that puppy and pregnancy don't mix... Good thing she's so cute!
