Next Adventure.... HOUSTON!

I've been working for Teach for America for the past month as a curriculum developer for their summer teacher training program. I have learned so much already, and have loved this opportunity!

Back in December, I participated in a rigorous application process for a summer position with Teach for America. I shot for the stars and applied for a leadership position, even though I hadn't paid my dues or gained experience with the lower ranked positions. I had nothing to lose...and I got an interview! I wasn't even beginning to get my hopes up, because they told me how competitive it was. They told me I haven't worked at institute before, and other applicants have. I really didn't think I stood a chance, but....

WE'RE GOING TO HOUSTON BABY!

Teach for America has changed my life, and has greatly affected the lives of the students I teach. Through the job of Curriculum Specialist, I will be training corp members and future teachers. I will teach them the essentials of being an excellent educator and how to be a strong part of this educational movement. I'll train them in lesson planning, backwards planning, unpacking standards, understanding cultural differences, and many other essentials. I can not wait to pass my excitement on to these new teachers who will touch so many lives. And I'm so excited to see my growth as an educator! I will learn so much!

I start working in a couple of weeks as they'll fly me out for trainings in Houston over a couple of weekends. Mike and I will head out ourselves June 4th, the day after I end my school year. And we'll reside as temporary Texan residents until July 18th. They pay for travel expenses, food and lodging and the best part is... Mikey can come too!!! That would have been a deal breaker! We are so excited for this new adventure and the opportunity I have to grow and learn as an educator! I'm excited to have a part in educating corp members who will go on to touch thousands of lives.

Texas...Here we come!
